For those that like to live a little more dangerously, I decided to extend the overview into multi’s without singles. So here is the minimum odds needed to break even or better on multiple bets without singles so 2 or more wins are needed.
3 Selections:
Below 2.0 (Evens): isn’t profitable to back any other way than a Treble with 100% of your Stake.
2.0 (Evens) or Above: a flat staked Trixie (3 Doubles & 1 Treble) would see you break even if two selections won and profiting if three did.
4 Selections:
Below 1.5 (1/2): isn’t profitable to back any other way than a Four Fold with 100% of your Stake.
Above 1.5 (1/2) – 3.5 (5/2): flat staked Trebles and a Four Fold would see you marginally profit if three selections won and profiting if four did.
Above 3.5 (5/2): a flat staked Yankee would see you profit for two or more selections winning.
5 Selections:
Below 1.6 (8/13): isn’t profitable to back any other way than a Five Fold with 100% of your Stake.
Above 1.6 (8/13) – 2.6 (8/5): flat staked Four Folds and a Five Fold would see you marginally profit if four selections won and profiting if four did.
Above 2.6 (8/5) – 5.0 (4/1): flat staked Trebles, Four Folds and a Five Fold would see you marginally profit if three selections won and profiting if four or more did.
Above 5.0 (4/1): a flat staked Super Yankee would see you profit for two or more selections winning.
6 Selections:
Below 1.5 (1/2): isn’t profitable to back any other way than a Six Fold with 100% of your Stake.
Above 1.5 (1/2) – 2.2 (6/5): flat staked Five Folds and a Six Fold would see you marginally profit if five selections won and profiting if six did.
Above 2.5 (6/4) – 3.5 (5/2): flat staked Four Folds, Five Fold & a Six Fold would see you marginally profit if four selections won and profiting if five or more did.
Above 3.5 (5/2) – 7.5 (13/2):flat staked Trebles, Four Folds, Five Folds & a Six Fold would see you marginally profit if three selections won and profiting if four or more did.
Above 7.5 (13/2): a flat staked Heinz would see you profit for two or more selections winning.
*For simplicity all multiples suggested have been flat staked to £1 rather than breaking down into marginal percentages.
**Again to keep it simple and avoid extra complications the highest line and down have been advised, there will be cases where backing just trebles out of 4 selections for example at lower odds will see a break even with 3/4 winning but it could be endless to include these.
Personally, I tend to avoid including anything below 2.0 (Evens) in any kind of multi, but people like to in order to bump up the odds. One of the main reasons I don’t like to bet accumulators is that they are reliant on more one leg winning in order to return a profit but all you are doing by adding leg after leg to a accumulator is increasing the bookies advantage. For example if the real probability of a single is 3.0 (2/1) then the bookie will subtract their 5% margin and the real odds given will be 2.9 (19/10). So it you took a double and no singles with both lines odds being 1.9 the double would pay 3.6 (13/5) however 1.9 wouldn’t be the true probability of the bets as each line would have the bookmakers margin worked into the price, This means each selection has it’s own margin of ((1/1.91) + (1/1.91) x 100 = 104.7) 100-104.7 = 4.7%. So when combing these selections into a double we give the bookie double the margin, 4.7 + 4.7 = 9.4%.
Hopefully those that choose to can use this information to make a informed decision quickly on the coverage of the bet.
Please find below a copy of a quick easy to view diagram, not because of the size of the table it might not be easily viewable so please let me know if this is the case.
