Corners and Cards: A Betting Overview

Neither of these markers are markets I specialise in but they are markets I have bet on previously.

One of my first original ideas years ago was betting on something I called the Match Treble which involved betting on the overs line on cards, corners and goals that I thought would come in. This ultimately proved unprofitable but online bookies have come on a long way since then with the introduction of things like “Bet Builders” from Bet365 or whatever the individual bookie in question calls it. Which allows for far better combined bets than you used to be able to play back in the day.

Firstly corners. Now I like the fact corners offer a different outcome needed than your traditional markets on football which require goals, but corners can be very tricky to assess as corners are more of a byproduct of a team trying to win the game rather than something they are aiming to do such as score a goal.

That being said there are some fantastic tipsters that have really carved a niche out on the market and once again this is who I suggest you look for if you like betting on corner markets. I remember @cornersbychris being one of the first innovators on this market so he would be a great place to start.

If you like to do your own research, there are of course several great free stats websites for researching corners if you have a lot of free time. One i recommend is https://www.adamchoi.co.uk/#/corners/detailed which offers a great basic over view of stats on corners.

Next up cards. Now this market has only recently in the past 12 months gone mainstream with much of the early value sapped out now. Popular markets include 20/30/40+ Booking Points each team from sites such as Sky Bet which will differ bookie to bookie but commonly will be worked out as 10 points per Yellow Card and 25 per Red, which obviously is better than just over/under on cards which Bet365 offer as a Red has more value where as it has no extra worth on overs/unders.

Once again cards are a byproduct rather than a desired outcome for a team but if you do your research you can really spot some value as depending on certain teams playing, importance of fixture, referee assigned etc cards are usually guaranteed, particularly in Spain and Italy, more so than over here.

As it is a growing market there is less data widely available on the market but certain tipsters are starting to successfully build a portfolio of booking bets and its definitely a useful market to consider when assessing a bet in a game.

In terms of bookmakers I recommend; Sky Bet, Bet365, Betfair and Betway are 4 which initially come to mind. Any bookie which offers its own “Bet Builder” tool is often a good one to look at and as I will cover in a separate blog always compare prices to look for pricing disparity.

Hope this has been a useful overview of these two markets and helps people going forward.
